1861. I Pittori del Risorgimento

Open Restoration
painting of Vittorio Emanuele II in Campidoglio to be restored at the Scuderie del Quirinale

Vittorio Emanuele II in Campidoglio by Anatolio Scifoni is coming to the Scuderie del Quirinale for restoration, thanks to the support of the Fondazione Roma chaired by Professor Emmanuele F.M. Emanuele.  The painting, which measures some three meters by two, will be the object of an "open restoration" project because all visitors to the "1861.  Painters of the Risorgimento" exhibition will be able to view it in Anteroom 1 while it is being cleaned and consolidated by Elda Nerini Mariotti.

The restorer will be working until 15 December.

The picture, an oil painting on canvas in a gilded frame with rosettes and the coat of arms of the House of Savoy, portrays the first king of Italy.  It was commissioned to Anatolio Scifoni to commemorate the king's visit on the Campidoglio.  It has been hanging in the Archivio Centrale dello Stato since 1983, where it is to return after the exhibition closes.

The restoration was made possible thanks to the support of:
