The exhibition that you are about to visit is the result of a long and complex undertaking involving many institutions and museums both in Italy and abroad, in a year in which Caravaggio's career is being celebrated in numerous exhibitions worldwide.
To ensure the success of all of the initiatives devoted to this great Lombard master, some of the works of art on show will unfortunately not be on display at the Scuderie del Quirinale for the entire duration of the exhibition.
The following works are therefore on temporary display only:
The Riposo durante la fuga in Egitto will be moving from this exhibition to Villa del Principe Doria in Genoa on 22 March, to be displayed in an exhibition entitled "Caravaggio e l’arte della fuga. La pittura di paesaggio nelle ville Doria Pamphilj".
The Bacco, the Sacrificio di Isacco and the Amore dormiente will be returning to Florence in time for the inauguration of an exhibition entitled "Caravaggio e Caravaggeschi a Firenze" at the Uffizi Gallery on 16 May.
The Suonatore di liuto will be returning to the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg on 9 May. The Conversione di Saulo will be returning to a private collection on 6 June.
The Flagellazione di Cristo will be moving to this exhibition on 14 April after an exhibition entitled “Ritorno al Barocco. Da Caravaggio a Vanvitelli”, which is currently being held in several museums in Naples, comes to an end on 11 April.
San Giovanni Battista
Roma, Galleria Borghese
